Members of the Bishop Amat Military Memorial Steering Committee remember CPL Joel Michael Sabel on what would’ve been his 74th birthday – 22 September 2017. CPL Sabel's name is on both the Bishop Amat Vietnam Memorial (BAVM) and the Bishop Amat Military Memorial (BAMM) located in the Bishop Amat Memorial Garden on the campus of Bishop Amat Memorial High School, La Puente, CA.

Corporal Joel Michael Sabel, Served with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade.

The Bishop Amat Military Memorial Steering Committee remembers one of the 8 men whose name is chiseled into marble at the Bishop Amat Vietnam Memorial, CPL Joel Michael Sabel, on what would’ve been his 73d birthday – 22 September 2016.

Members of the Bishop Amat Military Memorial Steering Committee remember CPL Joel Michael Sabel on the 47th anniversary of his death, in combat, in Vietnam. CPL Sabel is a posthumous recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross. His family, classmates, brothers-in-arms and friends remembered him also at the 2010 Dedication Ceremony of the Bishop Amat Memorial Garden, subsequent Memorial Day Ceremonies at Amat as well as Memorial Masses celebrated on Armed Forces Day at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception by the Archdiocese for the Military Services.

Dear CPL Joel Michael Sabel, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
