Thank You
Dear WO Gerould Rumble, Thank you for your service as an Utility/Observation Helicopter Pilot with the 1st Cavalry. Your 76th birthday just passed, happy birthday. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Halloween is this weekend. Time moves quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

I miss you every day
Chip,
It's difficult to realize that you have been gone for almost 46 years. I still remember the days we snorkeled off Del Mar and the day I thought you pulled on my rope trailing that big fish, only to look back and realize it was taken by a shark. We trailed 24 foot lines from then on.
I still have your initiation card for ATO and the letters we wrote back and forth, including the one where your own guy shot your "bird," as you wrote. Many brothers have seen and read that letter.
I promised you long ago that I was going to visit you and that time will be here shortly. My lovely Marilyn is taking me to the Memorial to see your name, honored as it is and to visit your final resting place.
Please give me the strength to do this, I know I will not be strong when I go to either place. I also know you will be there to say hello to me. Please do not be too angry that it took me so long to visit you.
You will always be in my heart and mind. I will always love you and miss you my brother.
VTL

Remembering An American Hero
Dear WO Gerould Mclean Rumble III, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
