Ground Casualty
Fire Support Base Nancy was located in northern Long Khanh Province next to the village of Dinh Quan. On January 21, 1970, troops from 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry, 199th Infantry Brigade, were moving munitions when a box of 81mm mortar rounds exploded for unknown reasons. The 8:50 AM blast killed thirteen U.S. personnel and wounded two others. The lost Americans included (from C Company): PFC Claud A. Davis, SP4 Terrance L. Drea, CPL Thomas M. Gaither, SP4 Pedro A. Gonzalez, SP5 Roger E. Key, SP4 John C. Kroeger, SSG Kenneth R. Kroehler, SP4 Floyd S. McCreery, SP4 Larry D. Murray, PFC Robert H. Ruggles, PFC Jerome R. Sain, and SP4 Kerry L.
