Posthumous Honors
My late father, Lieutenant Colonel Charles C. Clark, Jr., was in charge of the honors and ceremonies for Sp4 Roy when his remains were repatriated in 1966. I enclose a photo I found recently of Dad presenting Sp4 Roy's wife with a decoration which her husband earned. Sp4 Roy was killed in Pleiku Province during Operation Paul Revere II, and he was a member of A Co., 1st Bn, 7th Cavalry "Garryowen," 1st Air Cavalry Division. My Dad was an infantryman for 27 years and had seen combat during four Pacific campaigns during WWII. He had been a simple draftee prior to being commissioned at Officer Candidate School in 1942, and consequently never lost his empathy for enlisted soldiers and non-commissioned officers. His last duties before his retirement included the terrible duty of informing next-of-kin during the Vietnam War, a role he enacted with solemnity and compassion.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear SP4 Richard W Roy, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
