My Uncle
This is for my uncle to let him know I still miss him and think of him often. I was ten years old the day before we buried him in DeQueen,Ark. on 6 Oct 66 and he was my hero. He was a behind the scene casualty, but he died defending the country he loved. He left me with a sense of patriotic pride that carried me thru R.O.T.C. in high school in 71-74 and into the Army 75-77 (B trp. 3 rd sqd. 7 th CAV.) In 1988 I named my son after him . I and other family members would love to hear from those who knew him. E-mail is rgl@ hotmail.com or phone is 972-564-2955 . Uncle JImmy thank you for the times we had! With Love your nephew Rodney

The night he died
Despite much chance for death under enemy attack, he was the only one taken from our combat engineer company in that year in Vietnam as we built airfields and oil pipelines.
As I suppose is often the case it is the very good ones that go early. He was a very fine young man. I am confident his goodness was such that his time here on earth to learn what we are here for was no to be long.
As I recall he was repairing a truck tire in the dark without a protective cage. I was told the locking rim blew off and instantly crushed his chest. As I recall he was driving a 2 and 1/2 ton cargo truck, "duce and a half." His internal injuries were so severe he passed quickly. I was his company commander, located 10-20 miles away that night on another engineeing project site. I wrote the saddess letter of my life to his family the next day.
I would be pleased to communicate with any relatives.
