Ground Casualty

SP4 Larry W. Bloodsworth was a construction equipment mechanic serving with the 40th Ordnance Company, 3rd Ordnance Battalion, Army Support Command Saigon, 1st Logistical Command, U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam. The core mission of ordnance officers and enlisted personnel was ammunition handling, maintenance, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). The amount of ammunition processed by ordnance personnel in Vietnam was enormous and required heavy equipment to move it. Bloodsworth’s job was to maintain and repair this equipment. During 1967, his unit was based at the massive military complex on Long Binh Post in Bien Hoa Province, RVN. On June 10, 1967, Bloodsworth died at Long Binh where it was reported he took his own life with an M16 rifle. Amongst his possessions military investigators found a letter to his mother where he wrote about his intention to end his life. Bloodsworth was 20 years old. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
