Innocence Lost

I was a good friend of Lynn who grew up with him and his cousins the Treadways. We were young men just trying to find our way in life.Lynn was pretty much of a loner, but he spent a lot of time with his cousins and me. He enjoyed nature and camping out under the stars. He was a true friend who would help you in anyway. Lynn was deeply in love with his wife Anita and would have been a great father to his son Tommy. Lynn joined the USMC in August of 1974 times were tough and good jobs were hard to come by.He thought this would help support his family and he could find a good career in it, Lynn was home on leave his wife had a little get together with family & friends to see Lynn off. He was to report to his new duty station. Little did we know it would be the last time any of us would see him. I can remember vividly after the get together Lynn stopped by my house just to say when he would be back home and we could go camping. As he left we shook hands and said our goodbye's I watched him walk up the street, he gave me the peace sign as he turned the corner. On may 15th Lynn was part of a rescue mission to free the SS Mayatguez off the coast of Cambodia his Chopper was shot down and Lynn's body wasn't recovered,he was listed as MIA. As I type this it is very difficult to hold back the emotions and loss I still feel after 25 years. I joined the Army as a Combat Engineer in Dec of 1975 I felt I was obligated because of the sacrifice of the young men & women before me.Lynn's remains have since been recovered and he is home now on American soil.I will never forget Lynn and I remind my two sons' the sacrifice he and many others have given so we can live our lives together. I sorely miss my friend and brother.
