Ground Casualty

SSG James A. F. Roberts Jr. was a Multichannel Transmission Systems technician serving with Headquarters & Headquarters Detachment (HHD), 86th Signal Battalion, 2nd Signal Group, 1st Signal Brigade, U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam. Roberts’ duties included setting up, maintaining, and repairing of communication equipment and their associated antennae. As a member of the 1st Signal Brigade, the largest brigade-sized unit in the country, Roberts was one of approximately 12,000 personnel responsible for providing communications to Vietnam’s 60,000 square miles of coastal, jungle, and mountain terrain. On August 28, 1970, Roberts was admitted in critical condition to a military facility in Vietnam for treatment of a possible heart attack. He was medically evacuated to the 249th U.S. Army General Hospital at Camp Drake near Tokyo, Japan, on September 6th. Roberts expired there twenty-three days later from a reported brain aneurysm. Dear SSgt James Roberts, Thank you for your service as a Mulitchannel Transmission Systems Tech. Your 51st anniversary is soon, sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. The 20th anniversary of 9/11 just passed. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
