honoring you....
A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

Ground Casualty
SP4 Charles W. Roberts Jr. was an infantryman serving with Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division. At approximately 8:35 PM on July 18, 1971, Roberts was in a guard bunker at a radio relay site fifteen kilometers (9.0 miles) west of Nui Be Mountain (Hill 874) in Darlac Province, RVN, when he passed out and stopped breathing. A medic attempted to revive him, but efforts were unsuccessful. Roberts was twenty-one years old. A subsequent autopsy determined he had overdosed on a mix of Darvon and alcohol. Darvon, an opioid, is an analgesic drug (pain reliever). Following his death, Roberts’ body was forwarded to the U.S. Army Mortuary at Tan Son Nhut Air Base. After processing, it was transported to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware before being returned to his family in Georgia. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

Thank You
Dear Sp4 Charles Roberts, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. The 20th anniversary of 9/11 just passed. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
