Thinking of you….
Thinking of you today, Mark, on Memorial Day, 2023. Remembering many fun times while we were at CHS….a lifetime ago. I mourn for the life you didn’t get to experience, but celebrate the courageous, valiant life you had. Til we meet again, my friend…..

He was my 1st platoon leader in Nam
Lt. Mark Rivest was my platoon leader when I arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to the 2nd platoon of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division in late December of 1969. He made me his RTO (radio telephone operator) and took me under his wing guiding me through those first scary weeks of humping through the mountainous jungles of northern I corps. When he finished he obligated months in the field, he became the company XO. He could have coasted in the rear area for the remainder of his tour of duty but he was special forces qualified and wanted to serve in a special forces unit. A few months after he transferred, we received word that he died in combat. He was by far the leader I most admired. I think of him often and I still miss him even though I only knew him for a few brief months. His combat related medals received during and after my time serving under him are just a hint of how great this man was. His compassion and leadership skills were some of his other outstanding traits.

Never Forgotten
You died on my 7th birthday. You were 17 years older than I was. That seemed old. Now, I lift and golf with many Vietnam Vets, many who are your age or older. Doesn't seem so old anymore.
You will never be forgotten.
