Just a minor correction
Franks' father was from Guam, not his mother... His mother was full blodded Cherokee Indian from Charleton SC. And his Father, Domingo, was retired US Navy.

Guam
Frank Blas and I were in the same fireteam with Fox 2/3, 3d Marine Div in August/September 1969. His father was career Air Force and his mother was from Guam. He was short and dark with a big booming voice and great sense of humor. We called him "Guam". When 3d Marines were pulled out, guys like Frank and I were too new to go home with the unit, and we were transferred to the 1st Marine Division. We tried to stay together in the transfer process, but he ended up being sent to Golf Company, 2nd Bn, 7th Marines while I went to Echo Company in the same battalion. I saw him a couple of times, the last was at LZ Baldy in December. He had "SHORT" written on his helmet in great big letters. I said, "Guam, you got six months yet, you're not any shorter than I am." He said, "Nah man, I'm short" in his usual joking manner. In March of 1970 we ran into a platoon from Golf Company in the bush and I asked a guy about Frank. He said, "Sorry. He got killed in January by a booby trap." I didn't know for sure if it was him until I saw the Vietnam Memorial registry and found his name. Frank Blas was a good friend and a good Marine. May he rest in peace.
