In Loving Memory
Dear Donald, This is Betty Lou, daughter of Tom and Judy Gouthro. I came home from school and my Mom was crying. She had received the news about your death. My Mom and Dad thought a lot of you, and so did I. You were just the sweetest guy. You took me to the drive in movie when you were in Detroit. You were a perfect gentlemen. So much fun too. Although my Mom and Dad are not here today, they missed you so much. I never met your family, but I know you were close. Just remember I love you and you are in a peaceful place now where angels will comfort you.

Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Misadventure (Friendly Fire)
On April 12, 1969, an Aero Rifle Platoon (ARP) from B Troop, 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry, 101st Airborne Division, were set up in a hilltop night defensive position near Hue in Quang Tri Province, when an 8” artillery shell directed at the enemy landed near their position. When initially reported to the S-2-3 Section of 2/17th Cavalry at 5:00 PM, two ARP troopers were dead and another five wounded. They were evacuated to the 18th Surgical Hospital where two of the wounded expired. The four lost ARP personnel included CPL Sa Atuatasi Jr., SGT Felix A. Calderon, SGT Donald G. Respecki, and SP4 Frank E. Timian. Reportedly, the errant round was directed at their position by a Forward Observer who made a 4000-yard mistake while calling in fire support for another unit.
