Well Deserved DSC
I knew Bill and we spent time together in D 1/501, 101st Airborne, because we were both from California. That morning when we started fighting he rushed forward and got hit himself while trying to save previously wounded soldiers. He was considered for the Medal of Honor. I think of him and that morning frequently. He always seemed like a happy, decent guy, and I was sorry to see him killed. I always wondered if his parents knew how much we thought of him and how much we miss him, just a young guy taken away who will always be 19.
