honoring you....

War drew us from our homeland
In the sunlit springtime of our youth.
Those who did not come back alive remain
in perpetual springtime -- forever young --
And a part of them is with us always.

Thank You

Dear PFC Frank Raz, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. The 54th anniversary of the start of your tour was 3 days ago. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. The 57th anniversary of Gulf of Tonkin Incident is soon. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Final Mission of PFC Frank V. Raz

LZ Thunder (aka Nui Dau or Hill 164) was located along the coast near Highway QL-1, five miles southeast of Duc Pho in Quang Ngai Province, RVN. On November 18, 1967, 3rd Platoon, B Company, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division, was returning from a combat mission up the slope of LZ Thunder when the lead man hit a tripwire, detonating a mine. Six members of the platoon were wounded by shrapnel, five seriously, including the platoon leader, his radioman, a squad leader, and a squad team leader. An urgent dustoff (medical evacuation by helicopter) was called. One of the wounded, radioman PFC Frank V. Raz, later died of his injuries. The platoon believed that the area around the secured LZ was clear, the slope having been previously used without incident. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
