Thank You

Dear Cpl William Rauber, Thank you for your service as a Medical NCO. Thank you for the lives you saved. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. The57th anniversary of Gulf of Tonkin Incident is soon. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL William Rauber, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

Final Mission of SP4 William Rauber

SP4 Donald R. Hanna, SP4 William Rauber, and SSGT George H. Schroeder Jr. served with 6/31st Infantry. SP4 Hanna was an M-60 machine gunner and SP4 Rauber the 1st platoon medic. On April 25, 1968, they were patrolling near Bearcat Base, close to the city of Bien Hoa in Dong Nai Province. During the patrol a command-detonated claymore was exploded, killing SP4 Hanna instantly and seriously wounding SSGT Schroeder. A firefight ensued at which time medic SP4 Rauber came forward to help the wounded and was killed by small arms fire. Another 2-4 soldiers were also wounded. The dustoff (aeromedical helicopter evacuation) was only able remove a few of the wounded after the extractor from the helicopter broke and the troopers had to spend the night with the dead and a couple of wounded inside their perimeter. SSGT Schroeder would succumb to his wounds on May 16th. [Taken from 6thofthe31st.com]
