Ground Casualty

The Marine Wing Support Group 17 (MWSG-17) was a U.S. Marine Corps aviation ground support unit at Da Nang Airbase in Quang Nam Province, RVN, which provided the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and III Marine Expeditionary Force with airfield operation services (less air traffic control), engineer and transportation support, medical assistance, food services, security support, and other direct combat and combat service support. On September 2, 1968, a mass shooting incident occurred in the MWSG-17 barracks when an unidentified Marine began indiscriminately firing an M14 rifle. Five Marines were hit by gunfire, two fatally. The lost personnel included Pvt Rodney L. Ransom, a cook serving with MWSG-17, and LCpl Gregory J. Kellogg, another cook serving with Force Logistics Command. It is unclear what became of the shooter or what consequences they suffered as the Marine Corps generally provided very little information regarding such incidents. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

honoring you....

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. You died at 18 years of age. I am 74 and have lived a long and fulfilling life. It is tragic you never had that same opportunity. May you rest in eternal peace.

Thank You

Dear Pvt Rodney Ransom, Thank you for your service as a Cook. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Independence Day just passed. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
