Ground Casualty
LZ Puma was a 4th Infantry Division firebase built adjacent to Xuong Kuang in Pleiku Province, RVN. On the evening of September 12, 1969, while still under construction, an infantryman from C Company, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry was killed when a tree being cleared from the area fell on him. SGT Herbert R. Ragans died after suffering multiple body trauma. His remains were taken to the 71st Evacuation Hospital at Pleiku where he was officially declared dead by medical staff.
