GRAVE MARKER

Richard is buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

You are not forgotten and remain in the hearts of many after all these years. Thank you Richard for being who you were and for all you did. We live in freedom to this day thanks to heroes like you that answered the call to duty.

You were one of the brave that answered the call. You honored us by your service and sacrifice. We now honor you each time we stand and sing the words “THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE”. Rest in Peace and Honor Richard.

My Friend

I was only 15 and this young man at the time treated me more like a brother than my own brother. Back in 1970 we did not have cell phones or camera's so ready available.. I will never forget the day that he showed up and told me.. I am going to Vietnam. Does anyone on this site have a picture of Richard to share?

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL Richard Vincent Blackburn, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Ric

Remember the 1st night incountry. You were a little scared, yet had a peaceful calm.We were up all night. I was scared when you signed on as a scout. Part of me died that day, I will never forget you, my best friend. God Bless.
