Ground Casualty

SP4 Edmond S. Blackburn Jr. was a truck driver serving with the 63rd Transportation Company, 57th Transportation Battalion, 80th General Support Group. In 1971, the 80th General Support Group was providing logistical support to U.S. Army units in Quang Nam, Quang Tin, Thua Thien, and Quang Ngai Provinces. This included the hauling of supplies and equipment by the various transportation companies within the Group. On February 10, 1971, Blackburn was involved in a truck accident on National Highway QL-9, two miles southwest of Ca Lu Airfield in Quang Tri Province. He was fatally injured in the incident.
