SP. PETER PROCOPIO, KILLED IN WAR
Army Sp.4 Peter L. Procopio of 5 Ridgeley Place, Weehawken, has been reported killed in a non-hostile action in Vietnam.
Sp. Procopio, who had been in Vietnam for about a year, was apparently found shot in his quarters at Pleiku on March 11, eight days after his 22nd birthday.
SP. PROCOPIO'S mother-in-law, Mrs. Doris Linde, who lives at the same address, said they were notified by the Army on Friday, but the details of the death were not clearly explained. However, it appeared that the death was accidental and an investigation is going on.
Sp. Procopio and his wife, Margaret, were married 15 months ago and had lived in Maryland for a short time before he went to Vietnam. He had been assigned to aircraft armament, according to his wife. He was drafted July, 1968, and was expected home in May.
The last time Mrs. Procopio saw her husband was in December, when they met on his rest and rehabilitation leave in Hawaii.
MRS. PROCOPIO described her husband as a person who loved cars. "He was a happy-go-lucky person," she said, "and we were very happy together. He was going to take a course in computer programming when he got back."
A friend of the couple said, "He was very popular in North Hudson. Peter was an easy-going guy. He had a very good personality and was a very pleasant person."
As Sp. Procopio's mother-in-law remembered him, "He was extremely polite with a great sense of humor, and the young kids adored him."
The body may be viewed at Rieman's Funeral Home in Union City today and tomorrow from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 until 10 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Friday at 9:30 a.m. A 10 a.m. Mass will be offered at the Holy Family Church. Interment will be at the Crest Haven Cemetery in Clifton.
