Thank You

Dear Lcpl Wayne Pollard, Thank you for your service as an Administration Chief. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is Memorial Day (yesterday was Decoration Day) when our nation remembers your sacrifice. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

My Friend

Wayne, I remember our time together at ITR and Jungle Training in San Diego right before we set sail for Vietnam in February 1967. We were close friends and did some wild and crazy things together on liberty. I always called you the "old man" because you were the wizened old age of 24 when I was 19. You had an infectious laugh that I always enjoyed.
We got separated once we left Danang, but when I heard you were killed when your jeep hit a mine, I was very sad, and still am even though it's been 54 years.
I hope if any of your family members are reading this that they will take consolation in knowing that we had great times during your last days in the states. Semper fi my brother.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL Wayne Richard Pollard, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
