honoring you....

Remember to save for them a place inside of you, and save one backward glance when you are leaving, for the places they can no longer go...

Miss the times we should have shared

Just found this memorial. It’s another Memorial Day weekend and can’t help but remember you, my friend. Glad we got to talk before you shipped out. I had just returned from my tour in the infantry. I'll remember the times we spent "cruising" Totes, Steak N Shake and talking cars. Took leave to attend your return from VN. I think about that sometimes ... miss ya. I found you on THE WALL some years back. It was tough seeing you there. Took a rubbing of your name but would have much rather had you there looking at THE WALL with me. Can't get myself to revisit that chunk of granite. I hope you understand. Miss ya buddy.

Thank You

Dear Sgt Gerald Pollard, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is Memorial Day (yesterday was Decoration Day) when our nation remembers your sacrifice. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Your entire family sacrificed

Jerry,
I did not realize until several years ago that you were an only child. I can't imagine your parent's grief when you died but also how proud they must have been for having a hero for a son.

Your father served in Korea and WW II and along with your mother is buried at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis. I have visited their graves as well to tell them what a wonderful son they had and that he is remembered by a high school classmate. I'll never forget you Jerry and will thank you personally one day for your service.
