One of the finest persons I ever met!

I was detached as part of an Air Force FAC advisory team to MACV 83. Diwi and I passed many evenings playing cribbage, drinking beer and sharing our thoughts, likes and families stories. Although the fog of war does not apply, unfortunately the fog of time does. As good a cribbage player that he was, he was an even better person! It took me decades to find his name on the DC VN Wall and now that I have found his family I can find even more peace. I felt like I knew his wife through the Hawaii R&R even though I never met her in person. He loved her very much! His passing was tragic and sad and here I am nearing 80 years old and it is still that way? I would love to sit down and talk about Bernie with family and can be available from Stratford CT to do so! God bless you Diwi!

Your Son and Grandsons

Your son Phil is an amazing man. Your two grandsons are successful and generous adults. From all I have heard of the person you were, they are definitely the type of men you would be proud of. Thank you for your service. You are missed!

honoring you....

Some may think you are forgotten
Though on earth you are no more
But in our memory you are with us
As you always were before….

I miss you.

Captain Bernie was my first adult friend. My dad worked for DOD and we lived in Burgoberbach.
I used to stomp around in his boots, climb the tanks and listen to stories about eating rattlesnake. He was a giant in my eyes!
My Hero.
I pray for him and his loved ones. I visit him yearly at the moving wall and whenever I get to D.C. at the big wall.
I think of him all the time.
