RIP, Gunny

I'm sure all of the other corpsmen, nurses, and docs who served aboard USS Repose in 1968, and were responsible for your treatment, are remembering your fight for life this weekend, as I am, Gunny. I deeply regret, as we all did, that we lost that battle.

However, good things can come from terrible circumstances, and in at least one case, you taught a young man, now old, how to die.

RIP, Marine. Semper fi.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear GSGT Charles Harold Perkins, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

Not Forgotten

I thank my Uncle Chuck for his service, I was only 7 years old when he passed. But do have a few memories from when I was very young.
He was married to my mom's sister who passed away shortly before him in a a terrible car accident in Fallbrook, CA

Remembrance

He was shot on Hill 861 on March 28, 1968 while patrolling the perimeter. He was dusted (taken by helicopter) to the U.S.S. Repose where he was operated on some 34 times, given too many blood transfusions to count and he died on May 17, 1968. Chuck was a wonderful man and always a Marine first. He was respected by his peers and his troops as well. He loved everything about life, loved boating, fishing and long walks on the beach. I have heard from so many people over the years and all so nice. A Dr. who cared for Chuck on the U.S.S. Repose called me and told me how hard he fought to come home but it was not to be. He was the love of my life and I will always miss him.
