Rememberance

I was 12 years old in 1967 and lived in Montvale NJ. My parents and I visited a small white Methodist church off Spring Valley Road. I remember seeing Bigham with his parents in the same church from time to time. One particular Sunday when his parents entered the church I noticed that his mom was crying, I turned to my mother who explained that their son had just been killed in Vietnam.

For some reason I remembered that day in church, almost 50 years ago. I was haunted by it for some reason.

My memory of bigham consists of him being tall with a tall crop of dark hair like Fonzie. He always had a smile on his face too. I guess he was one of the true heroes from Bergen County.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL Charles Frederick Bigham, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
