American Hero
I just found Ron's bracelet in an old jewelry box and remember wearing it in high school and college. I never knew anything about him but googled his name and now know his service and sacrifice for the freedom I cherish today. I cannot imagine what his family went through for 22 years waiting to bury him.
We were almost the same age but I didn't understand then what the bracelet meant and how his life impacted mine.
God Bless and thank you to those who serve our country past, present and future.

Ron
The mission they were on was to recover Colonel Hambleton.
Bat 21
Ron was also part of our FDC crew for Charlie Battery , 1st Bn, 11th Field Artillery, 105 mm , 9th Infantry Division in 69.
And I believe he forgoed an appointment to West Point to serve then.
When the 9th began pulling out in August 69 , he and I discussed that he thought he might come back.
I told him then, the only way I would come back was as a doorgunner to get some payback for the way we had been pounded in Dong Tam during the Post Tet offensive that year.
And I guess that was what he did.
As a member of the Last Patrol, I carried that POW flag across this country more than a few times, but I never knew until later that Ron was MIA.
God Bless him and his family.
