"I'm the One Called "Doc…"
I shall not walk in your footsteps,
but I will walk by your side.
I shall not walk in your image,
I've earned my own title of pride.
We've answered the call together,
on sea and foreign land.
When the cry for help was given,
I've been there right at hand.
Whether I am on the ocean
or in the jungle wearing greens,
Giving aid to my fellow man,
be it Sailors or Marines.
So the next time you see a corpsman
and you thing of calling him "squid",
Think of the job he's doing
as those before him did.
And if you ever have to go out there
and you life is on the block,
Look at the one right next to you…
I'm the one called "Doc".

A Former Shipmate remembers...
Today 11/13/02, as we recognize the 20th anniversary of the Vietnam Memorial I just found out that Gary's name was a part of that Memorial. Gary and I spent 13 weeks together in Boot Camp as members of Company 581, 1st Regiment, 16th Battalion from Sep 1966 to Dec 1966. I remember Gary as one of the more quiet guys in the company. I remembered over the years that we had two or three guys get Hospital Corpsman, but couldn't remember just who. I happened on this site, and by chance had come across my Boot Camp Cruise Book. Upon going through the company, I came upon Gary's name. My much belated condolences go out to Gary's family should they read this. I retired from the Navy the 1st of April, 2000 after 33y10m05d. For Gary's family, I have the Cruise Book and the Company Photo at home if you'd like a copy contact me via internet at [email protected] or call 281-313-2863 and I'll have copies made for you.
