Dear Cap. Ralph Pappas, Thank you for your service as a Light Attack Pilot. I researched you on your 81st birthday, and your 54th anniversary is soon, sigh. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is Lent, and it’s spring. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

The "Friends of Rocky Versace" remember one of the 68 men who grew up in Alexandria, VA and who has his name chiseled into a stone bench beneath a Gold Star at the Captain Rocky Versace Plaza and Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Captain Ralph Byron "Barney" Pappas, on what would've been his 81st birthday - 14 March 2021.

During a "clandestine, spontaneous happening" at the CPT Rocky Versace Plaza and Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Memorial Day 2020, the "Friends of Rocky Versace" remembered Captain Ralph Byron "Barney" Pappas, U.S. Marine Corps, as well as Alexandria's 67 other Vietnam War Fallen Heroes. Captain Pappas was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for excellence in flight while serving with the 1st Marine Air Wing.
