For Willie and his Mom

Hello Mr. Oxendine,

I know you don't know me, but you and my Father, Rich Githens are neighbors. Both of your names reside on Panel 63 West, you name is a few lines down from dad's. My meeting with your Mom was nothing less than a miracle. I still remember her racing down the walkway to your name so that she could see Dad's close by. She told me that she had prayed for so long to find someone you shared that panel with, to know that you were in good company. Dad died one day before you, on May 29 and in Quang Tri as well. I wanted to tell you how proud I am to say that I know your Mother. She is an incredible lady. She has taken a tragedy and found a way to help others because of it. I can only imagine how proud you must be of her. We, as sons and daughters, could learn so much from her, I know I certainly have. She taught me that the best way to keep my Dad alive is to do good in his name. It's easy to see that she is very proud of you. I think that in some way, you will always be her little boy, you can see it in her eyes and in her smile when she says your name. I want you to know that, because of your Mom, Dorothy, you will never be forgotten. Please give Dad a hug for me and tell him I love him and miss him, but that I'm okay. I will be at The Wall for Father's Day this year. I promise to leave an extra red rose at Panel 63 W for you. I'm so glad to know that Dad is in the best company.
