072110-A sqaud patrol from "D" company had a meeting engagement with estimated threeVC,,Vicinity coordinates( at 908837).VC and friendly forces opened approximately the same time , the VC fireing approximately 80 rounds of automatic and semi-automatic small arms fire and the Marine sqaud approximately 1,000 M-14 rounds,and M-79 rounds.the VC, after the initialexchange of fire ,attempted to disengaged and perusedby the marine squad,both physically and by fire .the squad requestedan illuminattion from 81mm mortarsand artillery .After contact with the VC was lost,the area where the engagementtook place was searched by the marine patrol.Four chines grenades,1 MK 26 fragmentaion grenade,2 sudmachine gun magaziens,4 personal letters a canteen,cartridge belt,food containers,and assortedplastic sheets and articals of clothingwere captured.PFC osborne was point man shot on right side of abdomen evacuated by helicopter died of wounds before reaching C med.
