Honor Him
Robert, the son of Jaime Ortiz and Edith Ortiz of Paterson NJ, enlisted in the US Marine Corps on August 25 1969 in Newark NY. He arrived in Vietnam and on August 2 1970, and was assigned to Company G, 2d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
During Operation IMPERIAL LAKE A squad on patrol in the central Que Son Mountains searching the southeastern slope of Hill 493 in Duy Xuyen District found a cave. While securing the area prior to beginning an intensive search, a BT (Booby Trap) was tripped and exploded which in turn caused a loaded LAAW carried by PFC Ortiz to detonate. PFC Ortiz was killed as a result of multi fragmentation wounds and five Marines were also wounded by the twin explosions, three of whom required evacuation.

Thank You
Dear PFC Robert Ortiz, Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Lent has begun. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
