Thank you Mate

Although we never met personally, I want to thank you James Timothy O'Neill, for your courageous and valiant service, faithful contribution, and most holy sacrifice, given to this great country of ours!

Your Spirit is alive--and strong, therefore, you shall never be forgotten, nor has your death been in vain!

Again, thank you Sailor, for a job well done!

FAIR WINDS, AND ETERNAL PEACE MY FRIEND

30 JULY 2001 - 28 YEARS LATER

I never knew you in 1973, but I knew of you. Until this day I never knew your name was on the "Wall". I remember typing the Captain's letter of condolence to your parents. Processing the letter disturbed me because it all seemed so sad.

In July of 1973, everything was just about finished, wrapped up, the final curtain for a long involvement and you should have been home in a few months. Occasionally over the past 28 years I have recalled typing that letter, wondering how your family must have felt when they received it.

I know nothing about the life you lived. I know nothing about the hopes and plans you may have had for the future.

This I do know. God never intended for mankind to be in conflict with one another.

God created each human being to be very special and has always wanted to pour out His love and peace upon each person.

We don't have to fight one another. We don't have to hate or be fearful of one another. If only each of us would look unto God for the love and provision weneed, then we could live in peace.

As a memorial for you, may you remind us all to love one another and to find our peace with God through Jesus Christ.
