Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Norman Radean Bettis, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

We were crewmembers on E-34

Norman was the rear M-60 machine gunner on E-34. David Rodriguez was the driver, along with James W. Ambrose, right M-60 machine gunner and myself, left M-60 machine gunner. I was wounded on Jan. 29th and evacuated. Norm took Jim's place as right gunner and Jim took my place as left gunner. I was in the hospital when I heard that they ran over a mine on Jan. 31st and all were killed. I could have been a name on the wall too; I never forget that. I honor all of you everyday with my life; we will be all together again one day. Allons!
