Not forgotten

Dear Mark,

I did not know you well, even though I am your cousin. I was in my middle teens when you went into the service and off to Viet Nam. We were all shocked to hear of your death. It brought the war too close to home. I was told you were killed while trying to help a wounded Marine.

On one of my visits to Washington, D.C., I made an etching of your name from the Viet Nam War Memorial and sent it to your parents to show them your name was carved with pride for having served our country, and to let them know you have not been forgotten.

Your dad died quite some years back, I don’t remember the date. Your mom died October 19, 2021. Your siblings are all still around presently in 2025, and I’m sure they miss you so much.

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. The remembrance from your high school classmate Darryl Rasmussen is touching and reflects his admiration and respect for you. As long as you are remembered you will always be with us….

Thank You

Dear PFC Mark O’Brien, Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Presidents’, and Valentine’s Days are soon. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Semper fidelis Marine

Mark, you and I went through Teton High School sitting next to each other in most of our classes. You were quiet, but so was I. You were an excellent basketball and baseball player.

I too chose to be a Marine, retiring after 20 years service active duty. Many times I thought of you and your sacrifice. You were an inspiration to me.

Again, semper fi devil dog.
