37 th Anniversary

Pete,
It's 37 years today. I still remember you, but especially today. You would have been 55 years old this year. In three days I will fly across Danang and will look North and salute you.

Over my shoulder.

Pete, we graduated together in May and we buried you in December of '67, yet you have remained so close to our hearts. I rubbed your name off the Wall in D.C. and it hangs in my classroom, next to your graduation picture. Kids ask about you all the time: who's that, were you guys close, how did he die... I answer all inquiries about you, although some days it's more difficult than others. As long as I live, my friends, my family and my students will know about your sacrifice. God bless you!

You're Not Forgotten Pete

Pete,
I remember you from our high school days when you lived down the street from me. You were a scrawny kid who played in the band, bass drum, and played football. Pete, to me, you seemed to be out to prove yourself, always. It did not surprise me to learn that you had joined the Marines - it was you! When I heard of your casualty so many years ago, I grieved and still do to this day. Today, whenever I fly across Viet Nam (Da Nang) I look South towards Qang Tri and remember you.
