THE WALL OF FACES

My father Ronald Shupe never spoke of the war until I was about 30. He then asked me if I’d like to attend a reunion to meet some of the people he served with. We went to the Wall and he told me John Nutwell was his friend. Not till after my father’s passing did I find a letter talking about the death of Sgt. Nutwell and how it affected my father. I know it traumatized my father enough so that he turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism. My father’s letter said John passed while they were building a bridge.?

War drew us from our homeland
In the sunlit springtime of our youth.
Those who did not come back alive remain
in perpetual springtime -- forever young --
And a part of them is with us always.

Dear Sp5 John Nutwell, Thank you for your service as a Heavy Construction Equipment Operator. The 51st anniversary of the start of your tour just passed. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Hey John ,i think you often ,we served together at the rock pier, i was there when you died and i was there when the fisherman found your body. I will always remember that day and i will never forget the name John S Nutwell......sgt mac.
