NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER

It is said a man hasn't died as long as he is remembered. This prayer is a way for families, friends and fellow veterans to remember our fallen brothers and sisters. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die

WHY THE BEST?

i was with dan on march 1 1968. my name is holmes l townsend (roy) sgt. i was his squad leader. the circumstances of dans death were the most heroic i had experienced. he was trying to save his friend (larry carpenter) who had been wounded and cut off from the platoon. as i look back, losing him was the most traumatic experience of my tour. he has been in my thoughts for the past 30 plus years, not for the way he died, but for the way he lived. His belief was in GOD, family and country. I remember him most sitting in our makeshift chapel at LZ bartlett making tapes to send to his family. his faith in GOD and family was unsurpassed by any man i have known since. Dans bravery speaks for itself. It was not till this day that i knew he was awarded the DSC. but let it be known to his family and all who loved him that we had recommened him for the medal of honor. I welcome any correspondence from family and friends. HOLMES (ROY) TOWNSEND 3386 SANITARIUM RD AKRON OHIO 44312 (330-628-6134)
