After Action Report

On 7 April, a SEAL reconnaissance team suffered heavy casualties while engaging an enemy unit near the mouth of the Vam Sat River, in the Bung Sat Special Zone . The SEALs were conducting reconnaissance by fire from their armored LCM-3 when the enemy opened fire from positions on the bank.

As the SEALs began returning the enemy fire, three SEALs were killed when a Viet Cong mortar round burst above their amored LCM, forward of the coxswain's position, showering the boat with shrapnel. The Two SEALs were LTJ5 D. M. MANN, USN, and Interior Communications Electrician Third Class D. E. BOSTON, USN, A third died on April 21, 1967 from his wounds. Radioman Third Class R. K. Remembering An American Hero

Dear RM3 Ronald Keith Neal, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Ronald Keith Neal

I just returned from a visit to Beartown State Park in West Virginia, a spectacular natural area on the GreenbrierPocahontas county lines. The land for the park was donated by Ronald Neal's mother in honor of her son. It is a lasting memorial to her son's legacy. There is a small plaque at the entrance to the boardwalk that winds through this beautiful natural area denoting Ronald Neal's sacrifice for his country.
