Ground Casualty
SK2 Walter H. Nayar was a Storekeeper serving with Fleet Air Support Unit (FASU) Da Nang, U.S. Naval Forces Vietnam. FASU Da Nang was located in a non-descript, barn-like metal building sitting at the end of a runway at Da Nang Airbase, RVN. The facility served as a passenger terminal for thousands of Navy men requiring transportation to U.S. naval installations and Seventh Fleet ships off the coast of Vietnam. As a storekeeper, Nayar configured mail and cargo that passed through the terminal destined for fleet ships. On February 26, 1971, Nayar died at Da Nang Airbase where it was reported he took his own life. He was twenty-six years old. A sweet and gentle man
You were a special part of our family when you were dating my sister in Bogota. I loved hearing you sing as you played your guitar. You have always held a treasured place in our hearts, and we cherish the limited time you were a part of our lives.
