50 years have gone by since you gave it all!

Mr. Berner, 50 years have just passed since you and Jeff Klaves made the ultimate sacrifice for your country. You a Pilot and I a Crew Chief with Thunder Aviation at Camp Evans, Vietnam. We never met and at the time, I did not know about you. We served at different times. I was going to a reunion and a woman who runs the Gold Star family asked me to meet with loved ones of a crew member who was lost in the war. I was the only one from our unit attending. I met your son Erich and who was a young child when you were shot down. I’m sure you are proud of what great young man he has become. I wanted your son to meet Vets that could share stories about you. I arranged a reunion this past May and 35 Thunder Guys showed up as well as your son. You were a big inspiration to me to have this reunion. Dave Hause

Memorial Day

I will always remember the pride you had for those gold dolphins you wore. Even though you were only 9 years my senior I respected your wisdom. RIP

Thank you

To the family of Officer Berner, I think of and pray for your husband/father/son every year on 4/29. My brother Jeffrey Klaves was in the helicopter with Officer Berner when they were shot down. God bless you all. I feel your pain and know the hole that losing your family member has left you with.
