CAPT William Richard McPherson is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery North in Parkersburg, WV.

He was a graduate of West Virginia University, and was survived by his parents, and his wife, Peggy.

Dear Captain William McPherson, Thank you for your service as an Infantry Unit Commander. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the terror attacks. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

This remembrance is way overdue. Words cannot describe how much I wish we could have met. I am turning 22 soon, and I will be graduating with honors from the University of Florida next May. You would be so proud of your daughter and how strong of a woman she is. Thank you for leaving me with such an amazing mother and grandmother, and thank you for your sacrifice. I look forward to the day we can finally meet.
