Remember Stanley
In 1967 I was a squad leader on a nite ambush pastrol. We blew our ambush at 300am and our location was compromised Stanley was in my squad.
Stanley and two other men tried to find a more secure location. I decided to stay in place. Then heard an exlposion, the viet cong set off a remote claymore believed to be about 25 pounds. Stanley got a direct hit and two other men were wounded.
Stanley risk his life knowing the danger was all around. This was our first casualty of this newlly formed unit.
Stanley told me about his new wife in Hobbs NM and that in two months he would finish his one year and go home. and start a family, I cried at his memorial we had the next day.
About 8 years ago we had reunion at Arlington. I called Juida his wife and invited her, and she declined. She wanted to put it behind her. She remarried and i was told she past away someyears ago

Thank You
Dear Sp4 Stanley McPherson, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Your 53rd anniversary is soon, sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the terror attacks. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Dear Stan
I think of you often though we never met. I was there at your funeral in Hobbs and I remember the large turnout of friends, neighbors and family. I remember the pain in the faces of your parents, your brother and your wife. I know they never fully recovered from your parting . It is one of life's strange twists that I met your family but not you, for you see, you were married to my sister Ouita. May God grant you eternal peace and the undying gratitude of your country.
