SHIPMATE

I was stationed on board the USS OXFORD (AG-159) with CT1 Jack Berkebile from Aug. 1961 to July 1962. He was a gung ho sailor and a good supervisor. I was not surprised to learn that he became a commisioned officer and died bravely defending his men and country.

Aug. 11th, 1931

Lt. Berkebile was born the same day as my father. It is strange in a way, but I never imagined people my fathers' age in Vietnam. Somebody's father, somebody's dad.
