Thanks to all who remember from Mike's family
PFC McGinnis was my uncle and Godfather. I was two when he died. He was my father's baby brother. Dad was not happy when Mike signed up, rather than wait for the draft. To help him, he reviewed what he learned in the Army, taught him plane jumps, etc. Somewhere along the line, I think in some way, my dad felt like he sent him over there by doing that but that was not so. There is the sadness of losing someone and there is the guilt shouldered by those left behind. If there is one thing I wish I could have taken from my dad for the 39 years he lived without his brother, and all the vets who returned, it was that. I am grateful for those who posted remembering Uncle Mike. You are still speaking for him some 40 years later. My family and I thank you more than you know!

good guy
Michael was a strong young man physically but a wise, older man in his mind. He took care of his country and even his parents in the way he planned for them to be told in the event that something happened to him (as it tragically did). He was a hard worker and had a great wry sense of humor. He has always been missed by those who knew him.
