Don & I played Music I Played Drums Don On Guitar On the Night Of Tet Offensive We Where Practicing Down Stairs Of Barracks I Had To To Bed Had Patrol In The Morning Soon After That All He'll Broke Loose The Vc Hit Our Barraks Gun Fire & Explosion Outside The Next Thing I found Out Don Was Hit .

My brother, my hero…
My oldest brother was gorgeous and talented and he loved his country. My next oldest brother, Jimmy and I used to torture Don when our parents left us alone and he was in charge of us!! I always imagine what his family would have looked like had he had the chance to have one. Our family was never the same after he passed. There was always an underneath sadness. I was just 14 yrs old , and remember the horrible and sad announcement in school , at some point to honor Susie McDowell’s brother, that was killed in action in Vietnam , his picture in the newspaper I looked for and never forgot it , I married a navy man proudly , but Donny gave the ultimate sacrifice and I thank him , Marilyn(Marly)Smith
