Never Forgotten

Ed was true to his beliefs and to his friends and family. Out of the ugliness of war, he found a reason to be in Vietnam and a purpose to the war. He felt what he was doing in 'Nam was important and that his contributiion to the war effort was vital. Ed, 'Mac' or 'Doc' as he was called by many, is missed deeply.

The men of the 84th Engineer Battalion honor your sacrifice.

He gave his life helping his friends on May 2, 1971. He will live forever in the hearts and minds of his fellow soldiers. We will honor his memory until we meet again at the final roll call.

I'll Always Remember this Special Friend

Ed MacNeil was a special friend. We met at the Dental Clinic at Fort Sam Houston in 1970. Many times Ed would come in just to chat. We often shared meals together and enjoyed each other's company very much. He was always a gentle and caring man -- a (very) good and decent man. After not knowing how he died for close to 30 years, I recently was told the story by a friend of Ed's who was there when he died. It breaks my heart even more. I am glad I know what happened but at the same time wish I didn't know. Ed believed strongly in freedom for all and gave his life for his belief. I will always treasure his memory within my heart and mind. I think of him daily. I miss him very much and will always do so. It breaks my heart when I think of him as alive and vibrant and know I will never see him that way again. Only in my mind's eye. Oh Ed. I do miss you so. Thank you for your friendship and for all you did for your country and our freedom.

Do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Big Brother, How I still miss you!!!

Even after 34 years my heart still aches at the thought of you and the fun and life we were robbed of. Not a day goes by you are not in my thoughts. I am so very proud of you and those who died with you. Until we meet again. your little sister, Ellen
