My Beloved Cousin
Dearest DK (and you will always be DK to me and your family)
I am your first cousin. As children we played together through many Cape Breton summers. In those days we were so young and carefree and you will always stay that way to me. I remember the fun we all had together, my mother (your aunt), and Daddy, Mary and Donald Kemp.
There are only two of us left on Earth now: my brother, John W. and myself. You went off to war and then I remember you as a handsome young Marine and just as smart as you were handsome in your uniform. I am told you were well-liked by your troops on the line and I know you liked them as well or you wouldn't have gone back the second time.
I love you and miss you and think of you often. May God Bless each and every one of you. 1 Corinthians, Chapter 15, verses 55,56.
Love, Anne

A Tribute and an Appreciation to John Donald Kenne MacLean and all others just like him.
I share John's name and I shared his commitment to country as I, too, was a member of the US Armed Forces in 1968, (although we never met), but I do not share his sacrifice, because I live! Now I can only offer a modest and insignificant tribute to his memory, but this I do in full gratitude to him and all like him. Thank you, John, even though you are gone from family and friends, you are remembered here today as your name is etched on our conscience just as surely as it is on that special "Wall" in the loving, lasting rememberance of a debt we can never repay. John A MacLean 12/24/98
