A Fort Carson's Soldier's Thoughts

Just East of the Rocky Mountains
Fort Carson is the spot;
Where we're doomed to serve out time
In the land that God forgot.

Down with the snakes and buzzards
Down where a man gets blue,
Right in the middle of nowhere
An 1700 miles from you.

We sweat, freeze and shiver
Its more than we can stand;
they treat us like convicts
But call it defense of our land.

We're soldiers of the 5th Inf. Div.
Earning our meaningless pay,
Guarding people by the millions,
For a buck and a half a day.

Living with our memories
Wanting to see our gals;
Hoping while we are away
They haven't married our pals.

Few people know we are living,
Few people give a damn;
Although we are not forgotten at home
We still belong to Uncle Sam.

The time we spend in the Army
Is a time we have missed;
Boy we hope that don't draft you
And for God's sake, don't enlist.

And when we go to heaven
Saint Peter he will yell;
Lord these men are Red Devils
They have served their time in hell!

Not forgotten

Michael, Although we never met, I just want you to know you are not forgotten. You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for what you believed in. Sleep well and thank you.
