Actual home town

Vinny Mottola lived in East Boston, Massachusetts on Webster Street. I knew him but never really hung out with him. I hung out more with his younger brother Orlando, or Lanny, as I called him. Vinny moved to Medford after living in East Boston, Vinny's real home town was East Boston.

I Remember

I was in 1st battalion 26th Marines Bravo Company. I was the 1st platoon radio operator for a while then promoted to Company radio operator. I remember Vinnie from my time in 1st Platoon. I also remember vividly the day that Vinnie was taken from us. That was the first casualty that I actually knew and it changed everything, it became very real . At that time I realized just how short life can be and never forgot it . I have seen Vinnies name on the wall in WashingtonDC . When I see his name I think back to that day and it brings tears to my eyes. We all gave some there but Vinnie gave all. God bless you Vinnie and god bless your family.

Remembering an American Hero

Dear PFC Vincent Antonio Mottola, sir,

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for the ultimate sacrifice that you made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. And please know that men and women like you have stepped forward to defend our country yet again, showing the same love for country and their fellow Americans that you did- you would be proud.

With respect, and the best salute that a civilian can muster for you.

Curt Carter
