You Are Not Forgotten!
MSG Mosher was my Team Sergeant, A-320, located in Ben Soi, Vietnam. On Sunday morning, May 25th, 1965, the team sent a supply vehicle into Tay Ninh. The 3/4 ton truck had Sp-5 Lynn Peterson on the 50 caliber Machine Gun mounted in the back cargo compartment. Sp-5 Peterson was shot by a Viet Cong sniper enroute to Tay Ninh. When the tragic happening was called back to our camp, we rallied one company of Cambodian troops and the rest of the A-team. We drove several 2 1/2 ton trucks to the ambush site and dismounted. The fatal shot came from a tree line some two hundred meters off to our right. We spread out with the Cambodians and started across the rice paddies. MSG Mosher was on the left flank as we made our way toward the wood line. When we were 100 meters from the trees, the Viet Cong opened fire. An intense exchange of fire took place. The VC had set up a machine gun on our left and was spraying the tops of the rice paddies. Recognizing the problem with our advancing, MSG Mosher rose and charged the machine gun position firing his AR-15 in his advance. As he took fire, he gave his life in return, causing the VC to withdraw as we moved forward. MSG Mosher reached the woodline and the MG position before he dropped. The VC dragged their casualties off as well as MSG Mosher. We had lost two team members that morning and one of which was our team sergeant. Maurice Mosier's act of courage and self sacrifice that day saved lives and demonstrated the Corps values of Bravery. He will always be remembered as my hero and I honor him each time I go to the Vietnam Memorial. Let the truth be known. Rest in peace Maurice forever.
